Ottawa adds $15-million in aid to Sri Lanka
thru programs managed by the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in addition to NGOs such as CARE, Oxfam Canada and World Vision
"I was very encouraged by what I saw at the camp," Ms. Oda said. "This is not an ideal situation but considering the situation I would say that in partnership with the international organizations, the Government of Sri Lanka is making very good efforts to meet the basic needs."

"I would say that the conditions [in the camp] are acceptable. They should be improved and they will continue to be improved and that's where our $15-million will go to," she said.

"Whatever investment that Canada makes must be done in conjunction with the government of Sri Lanka living up to its human-rights obligations," said Liberal MP Glen Pearson
